The Euphonium is one of the most unique instruments, it is a vital member of the low brass section, it is a partner to the tuba, and is basically a smaller version. Yet the euphonium also receives many beautiful melodies.
Some bands use Baritones instead of Euphoniums, for beginners purposes, these are virtually the same instrument.
About the Euphonium:
The Role: The foundation. The Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba provide the deep, rich floor that the rest of the band sits on. Without them, the band has no "muscle."
Special Qualities: The Euphonium is a valved instrument that can both support the Tuba to create massive, warm tones that you can feel vibrating in the floor. It is also very melodious and can carry tunes that soar beautifully over the rest of the band.
